#FrameworkLaptop

Since I am in Rome for a couple of days, I decided to come to work at the Library of the Senate of the Italian Republic this fine morning.

The library staff is not friendly at all, but the place is crazy.

I was asked what kind of laptop this is, and of course I proudly replied: “it’s a @frameworkcomputer, you should get one 😜

@eri even for a #Laptop or #Tablet I consider the #FrameworkDesktop a total "#WontBuy!" on my end, as it has less #Upgradeability and #Repiarability than a #Lenovo #X230Tablet or #Fairphone #FP3plus, mich less anything I consider "#Desktop" hardware.

  • Seriously, @frameworkcomputer could've chosen so much better options or just done some sort of Mounting, adaptors & I/O shield to mount a #FrameworkLaptop mainboard and expand it's I/O to be on-par with a #MacMini and people would've happily accepted that.

It's really sad when #DIYperks put in more effort than an entire company at designing a Desktop!

Alright, so. Recently, about once a day, my #FrameworkLaptop 16 has been doing ... this.

This results in the loss of all USB.

Which includes the internal keyboard, any external keyboards, any bluetooth keyboards... basically, everything except the trackpad, which is HID-over-I2C, and the power button, which is wired to the cros EC. I wind up having to hard-power-cycle the machine.

I'm resisting the urge to throw this annoyingly bendy laptop out a window. Anybody got any ideas for how to debug this? @frameworkcomputer ?

The Framework Laptop 16 has just leveled up! 🚀 With the new Dual M.2 Adapter, users can now add two extra M.2 slots for incredible storage options, potentially reaching up to 38TB! 💾 This modular enhancement is a game-changer for those needing extra speed and capacity. @ustralien So yeah I am sad that @frameworkcomputer didn't work out a deal with like #Sprintek to get a #Trackpoint into the #FrameworkLaptop and I'm pissed that #Lenovo discontinued their #ThinkPad #TrackPoint Keyboard for a new and #enshittified version that cost double the price of the #Bluetooth and triple the #wired version before and is #WirelessOnly aka. can't even be used via #USB without a shitty #dongle, making it basically impossible for me to use.

Needless to say I'd still see #Framework & #Fairphone as the only options on the market right now if I had to buy stuff that is available right now!

@ustralien Sadly no, and that's my big disappointment!

@frameworkcomputer decided to choose the #Apple-esque "flat cells below #trackpad" design in the unreasonable #THINN-ness race instead of doing what even the #EeePC and #Sony's #Vaio #P11Z did and have a slot at the back to chug in batteries!

  • I know why they did it, as a closed aluminium pan aka. "#lunchbox" design is easier to fabricate, but I'd rather some #ToolfreeSwappableBattery which are IMHO of more practicality than having the ability to swap out every port.

Not that I don't like those #modules, but I'd rather wish for a "#THICC-er" device if that gets me essentials like #Ethernet, #USB-A & -C as well as a #TRRS #HeadphoneJack / #HeadsetJack.

That being said the #Framework is still by a long margin the "least #enshittified" device on the market, and same goes for the #Fairphone devices...

Not to mention they don't have an #UltraNav-Style #Trackpoint and I do use that instead of a Trackpad.

This #FrameworkLaptop 13 amd is quickly becoming my favorite laptop of all time.

Right up there with my 2012 MacBook pro and the old MacBook air.

It feels amazing, fast, reliable, and easy to live with. And that's not even counting that fact that it's the most repairable laptop ever made.

If you're on the fence, do it!

@zuul My #FrameworkLaptop has a $39 ethernet module with 2.5GB. It connects at full speed with my router, but my ISP is 1 GB, so it doesn't really matter, currently.

Searching "USB ethernet 2.5gb" on Newegg and Amazon shows a variety of stuff also in that $20-50 range. It seems like a reasonable upgrade if you can use the bandwidth.
