My butterfly amaryllis this morning.

I raised this amaryllis from a small bulb I purchased 4 yrs ago. I wasn't sure if it was ever going to bloom but amaryllis foliage s quite lovely on its own.

Definitely worth the wait

This variety of amaryllis has six-pointed, teardrop-shaped petals that create a trumpet-like star structure and radiate from a center with long stamens and a pistil that droop down and across the top of the lowest petal. Each petal is a pale lime green with maroon edges and feathering that is dense near the flowers center and becomes streaky towards the petal tips. The stamens are white with tan anthers and the pistil is white with a white stigma.

It's time for another obscure cultivar hunt! Have you seen or heard of Tradescantia pallida 'Edge of Night'?

The description and photos show pale green leaf undersides, and purple tops with a green border. This seems very similar to 'Shadow Hill', but the flowers are slightly different - the petals have the more typical wide rounded shape of other pallida cultivars.

One of my current favorite plants. This is an anthurium, rare in the US west coast at least, but pretty common in Guatemala.

I added some fertilizer, fresh soil and coffee grounds. You can see a baby leaf coming out on the second pic and also one of the gorgeous purple flowers!

Been messing with loom beading, these are my first three projects! Lessons were learned lol. Pictured: Three bracelet-sized bands of beading. The farthest from camera is out of focus, with a vaguely festive green and red patters and a wave to it, like wrinkled fabric. The middle band is less wrinkly, with a cross stitch like pattern- a red heart in the middle flanked by simple flowers of different colors. The closest band is not at all wrinkly, and is blue with a heavily stylized bird. The bird is outlined in black with a yellow to orange, sunset like gradient in the wings and tail. I was told by my beading teacher that it is a historic Native American pattern of a diving loon.

My first historic tablet weaving in progress, the simplest Oseberg pattern. One day I’ll get brave and do the complicated ones! Pictured: Close up of a narrow band weaving in progress hooked around a wooden loom peg. The pattern is simple and slightly asymmetrical, with repeating white parallelograms inside a plum colored stripe that’s just off center.

My first nepenthes, x Briggsiana, who is doing wonderfully and has been joined by a small gaggle of other neps that tolerate household humidity. I was lucky this was my gateway plant; it survived my beginner mistakes and I adore the dark color and wide peristome! Pictured: Three cheerful, fresh, dark red pitchers with slightly flared mouths hanging next to each other.

Brotchen, a long-haired tabby cat, intercepted the towels I was supposed to be folding. Pictured looking soulfully into the camera with her chin on some bunched towels. She knows how to pose!

One of the leaves of my Drosera capensis, a carnivorous plant that has helped control the gnat population in my indoor garden. Saw it catching the sun and figured it deserved a photo!

Les personnes qui me rendent visite 1 à 2 fois par an : "'à chaque fois que je viens il y a toujours plus de plantes" (non, n'exagérons rien, c'est juste que je les bouge de place régulièrement, il y a quelques nouvelles boutures -je dis bien QUELQUES- et certaines grandissent vite). Le traditionnel "mais ça va devenir une jungle bientôt !" me fatigue par contre...
Mais j'avoue, ça me fait rire de voir les gens se débattre avec ma fougère qui est juste à côté de la porte d'entrée et qui accroche tout ce qui passe

Prolly jinxing myself but of all things an amaryllis bulb I got in 2020 finally decided to bud! That's my freesia in back. Got it in 2021. It's only bloomed once but hoping this year. Smells marvelous! Split up my succulent pups from mom for more space.

Pinguicula laxifolia is flowering. The plant itself is out of focus in the background; the butterwort in the foreground is a spontaneous leaf bud off of a Pinguicula moranensis plant. The flower is about half an inch across.

I haven't grown orchids, so I'll take your word for it. When I use tap water for my plants, I fill the watering can and let it sit until the next day,, so that the chlorine evaporates and it's at room temperature.

My Schlumbergera has gifted me another blooming yr so time for an annual portrait.

Went a bit bokeh-fied (f/3.5) this yr. Such wonderful 3-D shape and that magenta really heats up a room. I like my new pot 2.

Schlumbergera, sometimes called Holiday cactus, are a succulent and they have flat, segmented stems rather than leaves. The stems spread out from the main plant and new segments begin at the end of each stem. This variety has hot pink or magenta petals that fade to white and light pink near where the petal attaches to the flower center. Flowers begin as long, tight buds. They open into a flower with two rows of petals with one row telescoping from the other row in a tubular, oblong shape. Each row has around 10 petals. From the center of the flower extends long white stamens with yellow anthers and a long, magenta pistil with a magenta stigma.

Was a bit worried my Schlumbergera wasn't going to produce flowers this yr. While watering it yesterday I noticed new (& some older, ) buds that I didn't notice previously. This will be 4 yrs in a row for flowers so it seems as if it's still happy & thriving

This plant is a succulent and its stems are square, flat, segmented, and have a thick ridge that runs up the center. At the end of this stem is a pale pink flower bud with a short green stem that connects it to the plant. Normally the end of a stem is where the newest stems bud but during flowering season the flowers bud form in the same location.
