This won't surprise anyone: I ferment the Amber Ale in an open vessel. I use Lallemand Nottingham dry yeast at 16°C. This is the Ol' Reliable of the homebrewing world and I was always super impressed by how clean it ferments almost any beer under almost any condition.

I am also excited to see the effect of Kräusen-scooping on the hop notes. West coast hops like Cascade can get a little grating and by scooping the hop resins off, this should make the beer a bit smoother.

Brewday at Brudi Bräu!

Today I am making an American style Session Amber Ale. I think this is an underrated and underbrewed style. Plus when I had Madtree's Amber Ale in Cincinnati last year, I thought I should drink this stuff more often. And since this style is even harder to find in Germany than the US, I have to make it first.

A 🧵

So, I never did a proper #introduction because I am not in to those things, but after browsing the hashtag for few days I decided that maybe this is the time to make my own post.

So I am guy in 20's and mainly interested in #homebrewing #brewing and #cycling

More specifically I started brewing my own #beer when I was 15, because it was the easiest way to get alcohol at that time. It became my hobby, I moved to #cider only because I couldn't get decent one in store. And after that I worked in #craftbeer brewery.

As for #cycling I am interested in #bikepacking #biketouring #commuterbike and more of a utilitarian cycling. Right now I am touring through Europe on my bike and because I don't have anything other to do I will be doing that for about 6 months.

Sometimes I post in Czech, sometimes in English and I also repost from #lemmy where I moderate @homebrewing

In December, I started watching all episodes of the Danish programme bonderøven about a smallholder's life.
Many things are familiar, but some are new to me like the replaceable swing tops for recycled (edit: should be "reused") wine bottles.
I tried to find an EU supplier, but only got something from China. 😞 One swing top cost me 0.73€.

Edit: As @Mutedog correctly replied: Wine bottles are not fit to hold pressure. The collars fit champagne bottle too though.

No idea why I am awake at 6 AM. 🥱 But I checked on my Schwarzbier and it had reached pitching temperature so I pitched the yeast. Very quickly because opening the ferminator for two minutes made the temperature probe already go up a degree. If I want to continue with an open fermentation, I have to learn how to scoop off kräusen very quickly...

I have decided to get a "Corporate Identity" for my beer bottle labels. The hand drawn labels were a lot of fun but they took forever to make and I'm running out of good ideas.

I was thinking about giving each of my beers its own color like Westvleteren or Chimay do. Starting with pink because f*ck toxic masculinity in beer culture!

Thanks to my sister for coming up with a label and thanks to the girlfriend for vectorizing it.

I've just finished cleaning up after crushing and pressing apples yesterday for cider making.

Cider making tips:

Wash the apples and remove bad bits;
Use RIPE apples;
Use a mixture of varieties;
Ideally, two thirds eaters and one third cookers;
The smaller the pieces of crushed apple, the more juice you will get;
Get your kids/grandkids to help but don't let them drink all the juice!;
Cider always tastes better a year after it was made.
