The little corellas were out and about at sunset tonight. The flock was all lined up on power lines clowning around. They are such cheeky little birbs, and there were hundreds of them. Here is a very small portion of the edge of the flock squabbling about real estate.

The adult magpies have tucked into some meal worms and are then searching for grubs in the lawn. Fledgeling is out of shot but hiding in the melaleuca tree.

Mum, Dad and the Chicks
in today’s late afternoon light

You can see how well the two growing chicks are camouflaged. Their woody-toned feathers blend in with the colours of the branching tree trunks that cradle their high nest.

On the other hand, the white head and bodies and grey wing feathers of the Sea Eagle parents help them to be less easily seen while hunting from the sky above bodies of water.

Gaining wing strength, watching the setting sun

Floating high above the green forest in their swaying nest of twigs and soft green leaves, a gust of wind triggers an instinct to flap their wings, as the two Sea Eagle chicks perform preliminary wing-strengthening exercises in the late afternoon sun, in preparation for fledging.

Sydney Sea Eagle Chicks

Beautifully patterned feathers developing

Two young but rapidly growing Sea Eagle chicks wait wistfully for Mum to arrive with their final feed before the sun sets on another day. Their large twig-and-eucalyptus-leaf nest sways like a tall ship in a westerly breeze, high above the green forest below.

The white fuzzy fluff of infancy is all but gone as they now develop dark brown feathers with blonde highlights on the end points. The new Spring colouring on their adolescent heads has the vibe of an 80’s sun-streaked ‘Miami Vice’ look.

High in the canopy of a green forest, the grey and white mother Sea Eagle feeds two small white fluffy chicks small morsels of a fresh fish that the dad Sea Eagle has just delivered to them. He perches on a fat tree trunk above their large twig and soft leafy-lined nest watching his mate feed the chicks below.
