Three swimmers in close to the beach. A surfer riding a wave further out (technically shouldn't be in the swimming area between the flags). Another surfer on the right paddling out. Blue green water with a wave swelling up but not quite breaking near the swimmers. A lot more churning white where the surfer is - he's probably close to bailing out at this point.

Blue crane is on the top of the slope above the beach. Other construction vehicles are working on the sand below, behind temporary plastic net fencing. The Dixon Park Surf Life Saving Club is visible above the rise of greenery that covers the cliff and dunes. A white railed stairway leads from the beach to the top.

The surf life saving flags had just been planted by a lifeguard this morning as i started my beach walk. A surf lifesaving UAV operator also had a drone up, presumably monitoring surf conditions. #beach #ocean #Surf #BarBeach #CooksHill #NewcastleNSW

Looking southwards from Bar Beach towards Merewether from the concrete path just above the beach. There is a guy in red and yellow top and shorts standing on the sand holding controls for a drone (he's the UAV operator). A lifeguard in a light blue top is near the four flags he's just planted in the sand along with the white lifeguard board used for rescues. Bit of a hazy day but nice out.

Looking down the length of Bar Beach towards Merewether Beach from the higher point on the cliff above. Sandy beach with few people, greeny blue water with some white lines of waves but nothing too rough. White cloudy sky, hazy rather than clumpy. There's a frame where you place your phone camera and take a pic of this view to post to CoastSnap, a global citizen science to capture changing coastlines. Looking down a long set of concrete steps to the light sands Dixon Park Beach. Temporary orange plastic net fencing is marking an area in the sand below the slope and on both sides of the beach access as out of bounds.

Sign on a metal construction fence announcing Cliff Stabilisation Works at Dixon Park. The following is the text from the sign.

"Cliff Stabilisation Works at Dixon Park.

We're carrying out cliff stabilisation works at Dixon Park Beach. This work will improve resilience to coastal erosion and enhance safety for Bathers Way and beach users in this much loved location.

The project focuses on a 60-metre section of the cliff line immediately to the north of the Dixon Park Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC).

The work involves building a new temporary coastal protection structure with rock bags to protect the bose of the cliff. This important work will stablise the area until longer term actions are defined in the Southern Beaches Coastal Management Program (CMP).

Dixon Park lower carpark and the Bathers Way in front of it is closed. Please follow the pedestrian detour around the carpark Work will start 17 March with completion scheduled mid-April 2025, weather permitting. The pump house is a small white concrete building with a roundish roof, a bit like a distorted cartoon igloo. It stands on the side of the main pool with a metal railing fence on both sides. Today the sky behind the pump house is cloudy grey and the water below is a dark grey-green.
