Looking up from the main pool at the baths towards a long white cloud shape on the top of the hill. Looks like a hidden steam train is running just behind the hill, puffing up smoke clouds. Maybe it's a sleeping dragon dreaming of its hoard.

The pump house is a small white concrete building with a roundish roof, a bit like a distorted cartoon igloo. It stands on the side of the main pool with a metal railing fence on both sides. Today the sky behind the pump house is cloudy grey and the water below is a dark grey-green.

Cloudy day at the ocean baths. Taken looking along the wide concrete concourse on the left side (northerly) with a corner of the shallow nearer pool visible as well as a larger share of the main pool and its entry ramp. Young folks (late high school age or older?) in high vis rashes and black swimwear clustered around the white pump house, some sitting and dangling feet in the water but most standing. Looked like the start of water safety course like they had the other week rather than the regular high school swim sessions.

After the emergency.

Ambulances leaving.

Taken from in the pool looking towards the corner of the main pool by the pool ramp near where the swimmer was being treated. Lifeguards and other helpers are still standing nearby as the first of three ambulances drives up the road with their patient. One ambulance still parked, the other doing a three point turn.

Before the emergency.

By the time i reached the bottom of the steps, a cry for help had gone up, swimmers were supporting an unconscious swimmer through the water and up the ramp and the lifesaver had raced out to help, walkie-talkie in hand. #ocean #swim #MerewetherBaths #NewcastleNSW
