Felt like summer day our run in Lakefork Cyn. behind town, 2100-2300m, then back. 18C at the start, lite E breeze. Trail was softening quite a bit, why we had to turn back. 25C looks like in town today. May be new daily record, old 24.5C in 1949. Warmest day of the year so far. Snowpack will be melting fast, top to bottom, high freezing levels. 11C today at 2980m Beartooth Plateau. Cooler tomorrow. Sundance seems fully recovered 👍#climate #dogs #running #montana #gye

HB 481: New penalties for protests near gas and oil #pipelines

Heightens penalties for protests near oil pipelines and other "critical infrastructure facilities," including those under construction. The law creates an offense of trespassing on critical infrastructure, defined as willfully and knowingly entering property containing a critical infrastructure facility that is posted or fenced. The offense is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 6 months in jail or a $1,500 fine. If a person trespasses with the intent to willfully impede the facility's operations, or damage, deface, or tamper with facility equipment, the offense is a felony punishable by up to eighteen months in prison or a $4,500 fine. An organization that is found to be a conspirator in trespass on critical infrastructure is liable for fines that are ten times the amount authorized for the crime. A person who trespasses can be held civilly liable for damages to property while trespassing, and an entity or person that compensates or provides consideration to someone for trespass may be held vicariously liable for damages committed by that person. "Critical infrastructure facility" is broadly defined and among many other things includes oil and gas pipelines, refineries, water treatment plants, railroad tracks, and #TelephonePoles.

Weak upper trough in Wrly flow sweeping thru today. Cooler for our Rock Crk. Canyon walk/run and snowing hard at the 2200m start. GYE spring 👍Sun came out after we turned back in too-deep slush past the M-K campground 2350m. Only a moderate W wind, often much worse in there. Easing back into running after straining my MCL 3 weeks ago, so far so good. No ursine friend sign about, moose were in hiding too. 0C at start, warmed up later. #hiking #running #montana #climate #dogs #gye #mountains

snowing hard 2350m turned back just up the way. 1m snowpack favored slopes in this wind-sheltered area.

that sun was sure nice at the end, dried out. Beartooth Plateau becoming visible again. the reason this area is bare in the deep canyon bottom is it is so frequently strongly windy. channels SW-NW flow. thick timber in the sheltered areas.
really a beautiful day, the snow was peaceful and calming, then the sun melting out the new snow. and not gale force winds.

We are fortunate part of the Beartooth Front is somewhat protected, so far. SE of town, below the East Bench. Meeteetsee Trail Rd. to Face of the Mtn. trail today, about 12K hike from 1680m start, to 2nd stream crossing 2050m. Too much deep slush beyond that. 8C and lite NE breeze, cooler today than yest. 👍. This part of the Front drops S well into WY. Much of which burned in 8 hrs. 15JUN2021 Robertson Draw fire, 12000 ha. Terrifying from town, getting close. #climate #montana #dogs #hiking

the second stream crossing is down there, but we could not make it that far. it does get green in here May on. lots of new shrubs, thick grasses. some wildflowers.
this is how Sundance has to keep cool. been furminating 😜 copious tufts of thick undercoat are now coming out. he does well in the cold.
our route if we had gone on. too much deep slush. all that burned in less than 8 hrs. hot dry windy, extreme fire weather conditions, worst of that year here, 2021.
the mix of clouds/sun was nice. glad it was cooler. Otter has a thin angora undercoat currently exuding.
