It is NO JOKE out there. Torrential rain, wind sideways, thunder and lightning. If you've left a window open, there's now a pool inside your house. And I had to rescue the kiddy pool before it rolled away, and in the 5 seconds I was out there, feeling like a dumbass, my back got soaked. Not great weather, even for ducks.

Cumulus clouds are growing at the time the forecast said thunderstorms would start to arrive in the Pacific Northwest, particularly along the I-5 corridor west of the Cascade Mountains. Looking north, Mt St Helens is still visible from Portland. But the clouds will undoubtedly obscure it soon. It's not DC or even Portland, but this morning might be the height of the cherry blossom season along Walnut Street in Corvallis. Wind coming later today might knock a few petals off. But for now, it's pink popcorn all around.
We found one pale pink salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis) bush in bloom, promising insipid fruit in fall. Although the birds love them. No accounting for taste.

The focus shifts to convection on Wednesday, with impactful weather on tap for all of western Washington
As a low pressure system approaches the Pacific Coast, showers and embedded thunderstorms are likely to form over the Olympic Peninsula throughout the mid to late morning hours
A dynamic warm front will lift across the region throughout the afternoon and into the evening, bringing a round of widespread and potentially strong thunderstorms northward
The primary threats for these storms will be hail and/or gusty winds, alongside frequent lightning and locally heavy rain
The strongest storms are currently favored to move northward east of the Puget Sound Wednesday along the I-5 corridor during the mid- to-late afternoon, likely causing impacts for the afternoon commute
