@Tutanota As long as we talk about tech independence or digital #sovereignty primarily in terms of geography and jurisdiction, we will lose as users and as people with rights:

1. Because this narrative can easily be co-opted by antidemocratic, nationalistic forces.

2. It takes away attention from what actually provides us with independence: software #freedom, #interoperability, a power shift away from #bigtech to small, decentralised, ethical tech.

3. It gives praise to entities...

Why 3 First Nations leaders say talk about Canadian sovereignty should include Indigenous perspectives

"Napoleon, the founding director of the Indigenous Law Research Unit at the University of Victoria, prefers the term 'restoring #Indigenous legal order' to '#sovereignty.'"

"She says Indigenous legal order is foundational to civility and democracy and wonders what Canada would look like if Indigenous laws and institutions were rebuilt and operational in communities."

CBCWhy 3 First Nations leaders say talk about Canadian sovereignty should include Indigenous perspectives | CBC NewsTalk about Canadian sovereignty — in the context of threats by U.S. President Donald Trump — and questions about what this means for Indigenous sovereignty and reconciliation are what brought together a Thursday morning panel discussion with Indigenous leaders Kory Wilson, Melanie Mark and Val Napoleon on CBC's The Early Edition.

As big-tech corporates are now starting to snake-sell their exploitative products under the "sovereignty" label we'd like to clarify:

#sovereignty lies in controlling and being able to change communication infrastructure components and apps to your needs, without permission.

Renting a proprietary product running in a proprietary cloud even if some of the proprietary code runs on machines standing on EU ground ... is willfull subordination, not sovereignty. Duh.

"Western officials say Russia is behind a campaign of sabotage across Europe..

"The AP documented 59 incidents in which European governments, prosecutors, intelligence services or other Western officials blamed Russia, groups linked to Russia or its ally Belarus for cyberattacks, spreading propaganda, plotting killings, or committing acts of vandalism, arson, sabotage, or espionage since the Feb. 24, 2022, invasion [of Ukraine]."

“Polling suggests that 85 to 90 percent of all Canadians cling to #sovereignty. Having been denied the easy way of absorbing Canada, therefore, the United States might have to try the hard way, conquering the country and administering it as a territory until it is purged of Liberals, Conservatives, and whatever the Canadian equivalent of RINOs turns out to be.

Unfortunately, we have tried this before, with dismal results. In 1775… it launched an #invasion of #Canada…”
