saying in a searing letter that Health Secretary

“It has become clear that truth and transparency are not desired by the secretary,

❌he wishes subservient confirmation of his misinformation and lies,”
Dr. Marks wrote to #Sara #Brenner,
the agency’s acting commissioner.

Dr. Marks resigned under pressure,
according to a person familiar with the matter who said an official with the Department of Health and Human Services told Dr. Marks on Friday that
🔥he could either resign or be fired.

Hours earlier in West Virginia,
👉Mr. Kennedy asserted that Covid did not kill healthy people,
contrary to research showing that
30 percent of those who died early in the pandemic did not have underlying conditions.

Mr. Kennedy has also extolled the value of 👉vitamin A as a treatment during a major measles outbreak in Texas,
while downplaying the value of #vaccines.

On Thursday, he announced that he was creating a new

Jeff Bezos makes the implicit explicit in memo to Washington Post staff

Mega billionaire Jeff Bezos made news yesterday
by formally announcing the parameters of the Washington Post opinion section in clear ideological terms,
making explicit what has long been implicit in corporate media

and, like then-New York Times opinion editor James Bennet did seven years ago when he said that the New York Times was
“pro-capitalism,”
effectively doing my job for me.

⭐️“I’m writing to let you know about a change coming to our opinion pages.
We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars:
personal liberties and free markets,”
the Amazon founder and executive chairman wrote in an open letter to Post employees.

“We’ll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others.”

As I wrote in 2018 when Times opinion editor James Bennet said in a closed-door meeting with staffers that the Times was a “pro-capitalism” newspaper,
“Media criticism is, more often than not, a practice of inference:
seeing patterns and inferring from those patterns the political make-up of media.

Occasionally, however, decision-makers from major media outlets come right out and openly declare their ideology.”

Bezos has done us a favor by removing the mystery and inference and cheeky “open debate” pretense from the process of inferring the ideological perimeters of corporate media and laid it all out bare.

Obviously this dictate is, in theory, limited to the opinion section, not the news section,
but those working on the other side of the firewall will no doubt take a hearty hint
––if they didn’t the last time Bezos explicitly interfered in the opinion output of the paper.

The fact is that, compared to peer outlets, the Washington Post’s current national labor coverage, while by no means aggressively anti-capitalist, is robust and generally favorable to workers.

Reporters such as #Lauren #Kaori #Gurley
and #Jeff #Stein
and columnist #Perry #Bacon #Jr. have done excellent work
highlighting the plight of Amazon employees and those on the business end of US sanctions,
often in direct contradiction to Bezos’ bottom line and ideological preferences.

While the Post’s local metro coverage, as I’ve documented, has often doubled as an Amazon lobbying front,
its national coverage has often remained independent of the billionaire’s direct control.

Indeed, the Post’s newly anointed chief economics reporter #Jeff #Stein publicly criticized his boss yesterday morning,
writing on social media:
“Bezos declaration Massive encroachment by Jeff Bezos into The Washington Post’s opinion section today
– makes clear dissenting views will not be published or tolerated there I still have not felt encroachment on my journalism on the news side of coverage,
but if Bezos tries interfering with the news side I will be quitting immediately and letting you know.”

Wo es das gibt, brauchte es vermutlich gar keine weiteren Erziehungsmaßnahmen seitens grün-angehauchter Politiker, denn dann würden die Leute schon aus Bequemlichkeit lieber mit den Öffis fahren. RE: @lostgen@det.social Gehbehinderte brauchen nicht unbedingt ein eigenes Auto, sondern nutzen sehr häufig Taxis. 100% autofrei wird also niemals funktionieren, weil immer zB Taxis fahren können müssen, Rettungsdienste, Müllabfuhr, usw. ja auch. Trump’s willingness to choose cabinet members with histories of alleged sexual misconduct threw his transition plans off course this week.

Matt Gaetz, Trump’s pick for attorney general, dropped out of consideration on Thursday amid mounting questions over allegations of having sex with an underage girl and illicit drug use. He has denied wrongdoing.

Gaetz's departure leaves two other cabinet candidates who also have been accused of sexual misconduct:
#Pete #Hegseth, nominated to run the Pentagon,
and #Robert F. #Kennedy, #Jr.,
Trump’s choice for Health and Human Services secretary.

While allegations of sexual misconduct are not uncommon in politics,
including against Trump himself, it is unusual for cabinet nominees to face such accusations.

Some Republican senators said Hegseth in particular would now face more scrutiny with Gaetz out of the mix, though they did not think the extra attention would hurt his confirmation prospects.

"You guys will look more and more on what happened and will understand it's completely taken out of context, and I think Pete will get confirmed at the end of the day,"
Sen. #Markwayne #Mullin, a Trump ally, told reporters.

Hegseth, a 44-year-old military veteran and former Fox News host, has been accused by a woman who told police he sexually assaulted her at a conference in California in 2017.

No charges were filed, and Hegseth and his attorney have said the sexual encounter was consensual.

Hegseth met with Republican senators on Capitol Hill on Thursday to rally support for his nomination as news of Gaetz's withdrawal broke.

Sen. #Jack #Reed, the outgoing Democratic chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said the stumble with Gaetz means the allegation against Hegseth will need to be closely vetted.

"From what I’ve seen from news reports, it is very concerning. It has to be looked at," Reed told reporters.
