@KarlHeinzHasliP @denki Personally, I think that standardized #batteries that get swapped would've been the solution to the charging speed problem.

#BEV|s are a problem and the #EnergyDensity and #Charging problems are hard walls that can only be circumvented (i.e. swapping fluids at a #RedoxFlow-#Battery) or ignored (i.e. #Methanol #FuelCell)...

Solving the #EnergyProblem isn't a technological issue, but a political one (see #DESERTEC)...

@LinuxAndYarn @GossiTheDog I've to applaud #WSJ for showing how much #Apple is shafting #consumers with overpriced #parts, because even if the #battery had only 10% tariff there's no reason for a #replacement part to cost more than $50.

David Schmalz's report, currently the cover story of Monterey County Weekly, got us thinking about our first real awareness of some #Battery Storage challenges. It was former U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu who raised our awareness, in 2009.

BTW, in contrast to current Cabinet appointments:

"Chu's nomination to be Secretary of #Energy was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate….Chu is the first person appointed to the U.S. Cabinet after having won a #NobelPrize.”

"On February 1, 2013….in his resignation announcement, he warned of the risks of #ClimateChange from continued reliance on #FossilFuels, and wrote, 'the Stone Age did not end because we ran out of stones; we transitioned to better solutions.’”

New green battery tech - from red state Alabama

Doesn't require cooling, a big downside of lithium ion batteries.
Also cheaper to produce.

From inventor of Super Soaker.
He's also Tuskegee Institute engineer involved with stealth bomber, bunch of other stuff.

Cannot make this stuff up!

Heard that some Chinese guys are working on an #EV that can accept a *megawatt* of charging power. Holy moly. Supposedly you'll get 200km of range in 5 minutes of charging. Not bad!

They'd better design that #battery with caution, though. If it can discharge as quickly as it can charge, then any battery fires will be of epic proportions.

For reference, a classic hand grenade explosion is 200kJ according to a cursory web search. 1MW is five of those per second. Yikes.
