Winter 2024-25 was exceptionally warm in the Arctic. In fact, it was the mildest December through February on record in ERA5 reanalysis courtesy of ECMWF/Copernicus. Nearly 95% of lands and seas north of 60ºN latitude had an average temperature above the 1991-2020 baseline normal. February 2025 precipitation (rain plus melted snow) in Alaska was well below the 1991-2020 normal over most of state. Parts of Southcentral, upper Bristol Bay and the upper Kuskokwim valley had a top three driest Feb since 1950. For the state overall, this was tenth driest Feb since 1950.
