Severe thunderstorm warnings now for Emporia and Montross, Virginia for hail to 0.50” and wind gusts to 60 mph. #RVA is in the clear now.

Western areas of central #Virginia will see two rounds of showers/storms today…the first one this morning, which models show will weaken as they move east of the Shenandoah Valley; the second line coming through later this afternoon, and it’s this one that will bring a threat for severe weather with it to the 95 corridor and areas east, including #RVA and Fredericksburg. #VAWx

Areas of #Virginia south of D.C. were upgraded to a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms for Monday evening; abundant low level wind shear will be sufficient for damaging straight line winds, tornadoes, and hail, primarily between 5pm and 9pm and from #RVA to Virginia Beach to Tappahannock (for the strongest storms, as indicated by models as of this morning). #VAwx #MDwx

Heavy showers finally arriving to #rva

A tornado watch is in effect now for areas of #Virginia south of interstate 64, including #RVA. Clusters of storms are starting to make their way northeast into the state from North Carolina and conditions are still favorable for a brief tornado or two. #VAwx

Showers have pushed east of #RVA and a flood watch is in effect for far southeast Virginia as heavy rain approaches; also quiet across much of west-central Virginia including the valley and down towards Roanoke; might see another round out that way later but for now things are in a lull.

A bit cooler tomorrow for D.C. into Maryland, but still quite warm for #RVA and much of south-central and southwest Virginia; still expecting gusty winds and another chance for a few strong storms on Sunday afternoon
