"Remaining in the United States without a lawful #immigration status can result in fines, #detention, &/or *#deportation*. It may also make you ineligible for a future US #visa. Please note that deportation can take place at a time that *does not allow the person being deported to secure possessions or conclude affairs in the United States* [snatched off street]. Persons being deported may be sent to *countries other than their countries of origin* [#CECOT].”

Also earlier this month, #Canada citizen #JasmineMooney was detained by US authorities & was held by #ICE for 2 weeks before being released. In another case, a tourist from #Germany, 29-yr-old tattoo artist #JessicaBrösche, spent 6 weeks in #detention including 8 days in #solitary confinement after she was arrested at the Mexican border on 18 Feb.

After she was detained on Tues, #RumeysaOzturk’s atty filed a petition in federal district court in Boston challenging the legality of her #detention & asking she not be moved out of Massachusetts.

“(Ozturk) shall not be moved outside the District of Massachusetts without first providing advance notice of the intended move,” District Judge Indira Talwani…wrote Tues in an order. Talwani ordered the govt to respond to Ozturk’s petition by Fri.

Not only will there be nooversight for people in detention at the border, including children, the children will have to represent themselves in immigration court, because they won’t be provided attorneys.

This is absurd & inhumane. It’s likely that the ACLU & other organizations will sue.

The #TrumpMusk regime doesn’t respect the #ruleoflaw, #immigrants, & fundamental #humanrights.

#BadarSuri has NO criminal record & has not been charged w/a crime, his petition says. His #detention & petition have not been previously reported.

#Germany …said earlier this wk that it was monitoring whether there had been a change in #US #immigration policy after 3 nationals had been detained.

2 of the cases have been resolved, w/the affected nationals returning to Germany, while the remaining case is being handled w/the help of the consulate general in Boston.

Acc/to Boston public broadcaster WGBH, a German man w/a #GreenCard was detained by immigration authorities this month at Boston airport & is being held in a #detention facility.

#Families have begun to arrive in recent days at a #detention facility in South #Texas, & #immigration lawyers are expecting more to be brought in the coming days. A second detention center…is being readied for families.

Each of the facilities is being set up to hold thousands of people. At one site, lawyers say, multiple families are being detained in rooms with 4 to 8 bunk beds & shared bathroom facilities.

For decades, detaining undocumented immigrant #families has been a contentious enforcement tactic. Critics of “family detention” have said young #children suffer in #confinement. Proponents say that locking #families up while they await likely #deportation sends a *stark message* about the consequences of entering the United States illegally [#TheCrueltyIsThePoint].

Now, after falling out of use under #Biden, family #detention is being resurrected by #Trump.
