A #Vera Institute attorney then asked on the call what #legal authority #DOGE had to demand involvement with an independent, #nonprofit org, acc/to the transcript. The DOGE employees reportedly responded that there was no point in getting into details since the #DOJ already terminated Vera’s grants.

At the meeting Tues, #Vera Institute leaders said the #DOJ this month revoked $5M in #FederalGrants that the institute was receiving to develop programs related to reducing recidivism rates & supporting victims of violent crimes, acc/to Nick Turner, head of the Vera Institute.

When #DOGE members learned that the institute was no longer receiving federal funds, they started to wrap up the meeting, realizing it was no longer necessary.

A member of #DOGE last week emailed the #Vera Institute of Justice — an independent #nonprofit organization that advocates for lower incarceration rates — to schedule a meeting about “getting a DOGE team assigned to the organization,” acc/to a copy of the email that was reviewed by WaPo.

“If I do not hear from you, I will assume you do not plan to comply with the President’s #ExecutiveOrder,” said the email from DOGE rep Nate Cavanaugh….

If that does not hold, then nothing else does. If we have the law, then violence may not be committed by one person against another on the basis of namecalling or strong feelings. This applies to everyone, above all to the president, whose constitutional function is to enforce the laws.

The control of #language is necessary to undermine a legal or constitutional order. Our rule of #law begins w/notions such as the people & their rights. If politicians shift the framework to "criminals" & "terrorism," then they are shifting the purpose of the state.

In the #UnitedStates, we are governed by a #Constitution. Basic to the Constitution is #HabeasCorpus, the notion that the government cannot seize your body without a legal justification for doing so.

The second part is deterring the #press, or anyone else, from challenging the perversion by associating anyone who objects with crime & terror. This was the role #StephenMiller played when he said yesterday in the White House that reporters "want foreign terrorists in the country who kidnap women & children."

Yesterday in the White House, the Salvadoran president showed the way, referring to #KilmarAbregoGarcia as a "terrorist" without any basis whatsoever. The Americans treated him as a criminal, even though he was charged with no crime.

The first part of controlling the #language is inverting the meaning: whatever the government does is good, because by definition…its victims are the "criminals" & the "terrorists."

Honestly, #Trump is sounding more & more deranged.

Ignoring the bizarre word salad “terrorist inspired/supporting ‘Sickness?’”, what he is directing the #IRS / #DOJ to do to #Harvard in his post breaks SEVERAL laws.

He cannot direct either agency. It is outside his scope of power.

Congress has the power of the purse.

#AcademicFreedom is essential to the #Constitution’s guarantee of #FreeSpeech.

And tyranny expert Timothy Snyder just said the same thing because Republicans have now defied the Supreme Court and are disappearing people into concentration camps. Never going there again.
