That is true. In fact, any more sophisticated #BigTech device should be avoided for this reason. In particular if it is from the #US or #China.
I write "device" b/c any time there is hardware that runs with a proprietary software or even an operating system, the user looses control (e.g. an #Amazon #Alexa or a #Tesla, or a #Huawei smartphone as examples for the latter, an #Android or #Apple app or #Windows #OS for the former.)

My take? Fedora. Something close to "vanilla"? Debian. Something more... "useful"? Ubuntu. Windows refugee? Mint.

Seriously, the only use-case for a #RAID controller is to handle shitty #OS|es that can't be assed to have proper #LVM & Software-RAID integrated, like #Windows & "#WindowsServer" which IMHO have no legitimate reason to exist or be deployed newly.

If people don't trust a #Govware like #Windows to get that done correctly, then they should not trust 3rd party vendors that have neither sourcecode access nor ability to get someone with sourcecode access to validate and test their work!
Mind you this isn't the basic *"on mailservers/upload servers/... run signature checks for known malware and chmod -x on all attachmebts.

Just get an Asus C300M Notebook. It's a ChromeBook from 2014.
Still running pretty fine to surf, read mails, or listen some music, watch videos, and even some office works.
But well, can we "hack" this to, for exemple, install a #Linux distro? It seems very proprietary, even locked.
