Thinking about my next laptop and #Apple has been giving me the ick lately with some of what they're doing.

Anyway, politics of it all aside, I'm thinking about a #Framework 13. Very expensive, but will hopefully last a lot longer.

Anyone have one? What do you think of it?

Since I am in Rome for a couple of days, I decided to come to work at the Library of the Senate of the Italian Republic this fine morning.

The library staff is not friendly at all, but the place is crazy.

I was asked what kind of laptop this is, and of course I proudly replied: “it’s a @frameworkcomputer, you should get one 😜”

I've finally filed a bug report about the "0% backlight on resume" heisenbug with laptops and docking stations (or port replicators, or external displays), which has been annoying me for decades on #Linux with any #ThinkPad model I've used (also reportedly affects #Framework laptops too): gitlab.freedesktop.org/upower/

I'm not even sure I filed it in the right place. Which #FreeDesktop component might be causing this is completely arcane knowledge.

Out of pure curiosity, and because I'm on that #webdev #framework discovery tip. Heck, this project even made me download an IDE for Android lol

Just to read `install.bin` - which is an sh script.

Excuse me, but why are you bundling #nodejs and #npm? Is it to facilitate a setup process for containers, or is it merely to make the process easy?

I'm a bit sceptical to that sort of thing, especially when fetching from a vendors domain directly.

Any plans to build packages via CI?

About #Framework Desktop they explained that it is not meant to improve modularity, reparability and customization of desktop PCs because they already are. It is meant to provide a specific AMD mobile processor as a desktop PC that makes the most of it while still being easier to transport than a full-size PC.

And that processor wouldn't be anything special without soldered RAM so there wouldn't be any point in creating the Framework Desktop in the first place.

The #Framework Laptop 13 is a slightly unusual size and aspect ratio. So, instead of getting a case that "kind of" fits, I had one custom made from this great #Canadian artist from #Quebec on #Etsy who specializes in making things from kimono fabrics. This is my second one from them and the quality of both is excellent. If you are in the market for a new case, please give their shop a look:
