Regions of the #display panel that aren't displaying an image are transparent, like glass, but the displaying region is opaque and emissive.

Actually kissing is one of those human customs that's weirdly universal on #StarTrek. Name any humanoid alien species that gets significant screen time, and one of them has probably kissed someone at some point.
That includes Trill, Talaxians, Klingons, Betazoids, androids, Vulcans, holograms, Vidiians, Akaali, Ferengi, Bajorans, and even the freaking Borg Queen.
