Greens voters in Western Sydney: Adam Bandt and Mehreen Faruqi are hosting a campaign rally 6pm this Sunday (13th April) at Parramatta Town Hall. Details & RSVP here: https://contact-nsw.greens.org.au/civicrm/event/info?id=21450&reset=1
"Western Sydney has been ignored by the two major parties for far too long. Communities are sick and tired of being taken for granted, being used as photo ops at our festivals while the issues that matter most to us are ignored.
"This election, that changes. The Greens will be fighting to keep Dutton out and get Labor to act. With a minority government all but guaranteed, this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for change – and Western Sydney is key to this.
"Join Australian Greens Leader, Adam Bandt, Deputy Leader, Mehreen Faruqi, and our candidates for Western Sydney at Parramatta Town Hall. Over some food and light refreshments provided by the Greens, you’ll have a perfect opportunity for us to hear from you and you to hear from us about what Greens politics means for Western Sydney and why this election is so important."
I'll be 'travelling' on the Saturday, so most unfortunately will be forced to beat the rush.
Btw, what 'religious beliefs' apply to polling places? They're as often as not a church hall anyway.
-------------------------------------------
Early voting eligibility. You can vote early either in person or by post if on polling day you:
- are outside the electorate where you are enrolled to vote
- are more than 8km from a polling place
- are travelling
- are unable to leave your workplace to vote
- are seriously ill, infirm or due to give birth shortly (or caring for someone who is)
- are a person with disability (or caring for someone who is)
- are a patient in hospital and can't vote at the hospital
- have religious beliefs that prevent you from attending a polling place
- are in prison serving a sentence of less than three years or otherwise detained
- are a silent elector
- have a reasonable fear for your safety or wellbeing.
While I do want to see renewables feature in election pitches, Labour's home battery subsidy is bad. Home batteries are popular but they're exclusionary and they exacerbate existing issues around grid maintence costs. It shouldn't be desirable for most people to be operating a hobby-grade home powerplant. We should be investing in grid scale batteries. #auspol #renewables

Angus Taylor is so full of shit...
But he is a shiny turd...
.
Unlike Dutton, who is just inept and tragic...
.
Both Dutton and Taylor make the ALP look good, AND that is no easy task...
.
A government is only as good as it's opposition, so no wonder the ALP is not delivering...
.
What we need is more independents and greens - they keep the rest of the house on their game...

I can't remember when I've seen something this desperate - reversing a major policy announcement in the middle of an election campaign. Dutton is a blustering idiot; why would you vote for him?
"Peter Dutton has been forced into a costly backflip that shows he has deeper problems in this election campaign than his approach to working from home.
"The opposition leader has made a necessary decision to stage a big policy shift so he can assure Australians – especially women – that he will not force them back to the office."

Just look at the numbers. There are around 80,000 Lebanese Muslims in Australia. Of these, 22 have been charged with terrorism offences, or around one in 3600. There are around 3000 priests in Australia, plus a few hundred retirees. Of these, an astonishing one in 20 has been charged with child sexual abuse offences. And according to the best academic experts, the true number of offenders is around one in 15.
@bastardsheep.com The river and Church St frontage is the *good* side of the building. It's worse around the back.
Feeling inspired to watch some theatre?
@bastardsheep.com I swung by Australia's least inspiring performing arts building earlier today to take some photos. Renovator's delight is being kind... #arts #auspol #nswpol
Useful Australian election vocab for if the media starts to hold politicians a bit more accountable
Sky News is spreading LIES about how your vote works, and I'm sick of it.
They want you to think our preferential voting system is "rigged" because their team can't win. But here's the truth: YOUR preferences belong to YOU, not the Greens, not Labor, not anyone else. #auspol #auspol2025
Thoughts on Change dot org alternatives for petitioning local council?
Secure and private name/address collection seems like the big hurdle here.
Yes it’s technically public info once the petition is submitted, but that’s no reason to leave it lying around on the internet…

The best message the ALP can promote is Dutton equals Trump, Albanese equals a safe pair of hands.
Dutton is doing his best to promote the first part of this without Labor having to say a word.

Let’s be real: the Literal Nazi Party didn’t hand over the Port of Darwin to a Communist regime out of goodwill.
The LNP don’t do anything unless there’s a personal payday involved.
“And then he said he’s going to get the Port of Darwin back from the Chinese when his lot gave it to them in the first place…”#auspol #auspol2025 #auspol25
