Roni Laukkarinen<p>I see that in 2025, I've been posting in Finnish 90% of the time and in English only 10%, mainly due to the huge influx of Finnish users this year. In previous years, it was the opposite - 90% English and 10% Finnish.</p><p>The best part? It doesn't matter here in the Fediverse. With language filtering and translation features, it's truly a top-tier social media.</p><p><a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/SocialMedia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SocialMedia</span></a> <a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/SocialWeb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SocialWeb</span></a> <a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/Polyglot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Polyglot</span></a> <a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a> <a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/Fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fediverse</span></a></p>
kechpaja<p>A passing <a href="https://social.kechpaja.com/tags/LanguageLearning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LanguageLearning</span></a> thought:</p><p>If you can make and get puns and play language games, you can do ablaut and Semitic-style patterns.</p><p>Most wordplay revolves around modifying or replacing parts of words. The same is true for both IE-style ablaut and Semitic-style patterns: you take part of the word and transform it in a predictable manner (usually by replacing, adding, or deleting a vowel). The main difference is that in the latter case, you are doing it to indicate a change in tense, mood, or another grammatical category, rather than trying to be funny.</p><p>It's probably no big surprise that word people like wordplay, but if you're trying to become a word person, remember that wordplay isn't just fun — it's also _practice_.</p><p><a href="https://social.kechpaja.com/tags/polyglot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>polyglot</span></a> <a href="https://social.kechpaja.com/tags/language" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>language</span></a> <a href="https://social.kechpaja.com/tags/ablaut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ablaut</span></a></p>
Lisa 🦔<p>Probably about time for a new (re) <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/Introductions" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Introductions</span></a> post to pin! Been bumbling around on Mastodon since November 2017 on one server or another, and happy to get cozy in a smaller server this time. :ablobwave:</p><p>I’m not a heavy poster, but lean mostly towards <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/SciCom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SciCom</span></a> and pictures of the <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/critters" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>critters</span></a> and <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/wildlife" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wildlife</span></a> I spot in my central Florida backyard or from adventures on my <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/camping" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>camping</span></a> trips.</p><p>I’m currently a <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/caregiver" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>caregiver</span></a>, formerly a professional <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/Library" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Library</span></a> knowledge ninja. Strong believer in the <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/RightToRepair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RightToRepair</span></a> and lifelong <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/Sewcialist" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sewcialist</span></a>. I spend a lot of time digging into local ecology and <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/HabitatRestoration" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HabitatRestoration</span></a> and preservation. I’m a <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/space" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>space</span></a> and aeronautics nerd, but I'm also a <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/Polyglot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Polyglot</span></a> with an academic background in <a href="https://flipping.rocks/tags/linguistics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linguistics</span></a>, adult literacy, and ESL. The other part of my academic background is the technical side of theatre.</p>

Andrew Woods<p>if you’re the singer in a band, and you tour internationally, wouldn’t you want to speak multiple languages? I feel like you should. For those times between songs, when you’re talking to the audience. If you could, that would set you apart from other bands. Those fans would respect you even more </p><p>Which languages depends on where you tour most often. </p><p><a href="https://phpc.social/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/polyglot" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>polyglot</span></a> <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/language" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>language</span></a></p>
