Eigentlich wollte ich hier sitzen, die Welt mit meinem Handy retten und kluge Beiträge schreiben. Stattdessen werde ich hypnotisiert von diesem kleinen Wesen, das mich so erwartungsvoll anschaut, als ob es seit Tagen nicht gestreichelt wurde. Verantwortungsvoll wie ich bin, lege ich mein Handy jetzt natürlich weg und rette zuerst diesen Hund – oder vielleicht rettet er ja gerade mich?

In Welsh myths, Merlin buried a great treasure in a golden cauldron inside the Welsh hill Dinas Emrys - where King Vortigern once tried to sacrifice him to build a tower. Only Merlin's heir (who must have blond hair) will be able to find the hidden cavern and claim the treasure.

A couple of raptors from Jones Beach State Park, on LI, NY, on Sunday. It was pretty low-key, considering that migration is now in full swing, but apparently the predicted "high" volume for our area was downgraded to "medium" as prevailing easterly winds pushed migrating birds further west. Still, our group (South Shore Audubon Society) collectively recorded about 30 species. In addition to the 2 raptors shown here, we observed a Northern Harrier, a Cooper's Hawk, and possibly a Sharp-shinned Hawk (or another Cooper's).

In Merlin's first appearance, Geoffrey of Monmouth's "History of the Kings of Britain," it is theorized that Merlin's father was from a mysterious species of spirit who live between the Moon and the Earth, and are half-human and half-angelic. Later stories instead make his father a demon.

Saw two Merlins today, first time seeing them out at Stillwater. At first thought it was a kestrel, but then got a closer look and nope. Neat watching this little falcon.
Is this "Aw, look what good buddies Merlin and Lancelot are", or, "The ongoing battle for ownership of the pink beanbag continues"?
