“The richness of Donnchadh Bàn’s language becomes a metaphor for the richness of nature... The poem is a song & the music itself becomes a metaphor for the co-existence of different forms of life”

—Meg Bateman introduces Ben Dorain: a conversation with a mountain, by Garry MacKenzie, (Irish Pages Press/Cló An Mhíl Bhuí, 2021)

Bolesław Prus's, The Outpost, begins serialization in the Polish illustrated weekly, Wędrowiec.

Its specificity was influenced by two trends: naturalism and realism. The main themes of the work are German colonization in Polish lands, a study of the life of the peasant in the 2nd half of the 19th century and his struggle to keep the land.

Yesterday I read about Japan's sidewalks producing electricity through people walking on their tiles.

I was certain I read about it before and indeed, the French author Alphonse Allais had already thought of sidewalks using people's steps to produce electricity... in 1896!

Actually this guy predicted a number of future technology, always as a joke.
One more proof that science is nothing without imagination (and humor).

The Blue Flame, a four-act play by George V. Hobart and John Willard after Leta Vance Nicholson, opens at the Shubert Theatre on Broadway before a year's U.S. tour. Though described by a critic as "one of the worst plays ever written," it is a commercial success, largely due to Theda Bara as the central character of a vamp.
