De agosto a novembro, as chuvas diminuem e começa o período de estiagem do Rio Amapari. Nessa época, a subida do rio de torna mais lenta e cuidadosa. Com o nível da água mais baixo, as rochas presentes nas suas corredeiras exigem mais perícia dos pilotos de embarcações.

* From August to November, the rains decrease and the dry period of the Amapari River begins. At this time, the ascent of the river becomes slower and more careful. With the water level lower, the rocks present in their rapids require more expertise from boat pilots.

Imbassaí is wonderful small village directly by the Atlantic Ocean approximately 80 km north of Salvador. The former indigenous village has become a touristic center in the region, due to its amazing location and beauty. It’s directly located where a river with the same name (Imbassaí) flows into the ocean. The river separates the beaches, which are located on an offshore island, from the land. That means if you’re on the beach island you can choose between the wild saltwater of the Atlantic Ocean or the calm sweet water of the Imbassaí river.

In 1981 the Lençóis Maranhenses have been declared a national park (Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses) to protect and preserve this unique eco system. The park covers a protected area of 155.000 ha out of which 90.000 ha are covered with these pitoresque sand dunes which fill with sweet water during the raining season.

Amazon forest felled to build road for climate summit

"A new four-lane highway cutting through tens of thousands of acres of protected Amazon rainforest is being built for the COP30 climate summit in the Brazilian city of Belém.

It aims to ease traffic to the city, which will host more than 50,000 people - including world leaders - at the conference in November.

The state government touts the highway's "sustainable" credentials, but some locals and conservationists are outraged at the environmental impact.

The Amazon plays a vital role in absorbing carbon for the world and providing biodiversity, and many say this deforestation contradicts the very purpose of a climate summit."

In 1981 the Lençóis Maranhenses have been declared a national park (Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses) to protect and preserve this unique eco system. The park covers a protected area of 155.000 ha out of which 90.000 ha are covered with these pitoresque sand dunes which fill with sweet water during the raining season.
Sadly on 3rd of December 2019 the former president determined by decree to privatize the Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses, Parque Nacional de Jericoacoara (Ceará) and Parque Nacional do Iguaçu (Paraná).
