#TrainTrackTuesday on Wednesday, because the train was too late.

A straight-on shot depicts a railway track disappearing into a thick, enveloping fog. The two parallel rails, made of metal, stretch into the distance, gradually fading into the dense, grey mist. The tracks are set on a bed of dark, coarse gravel, which is visible along the sides and between the rails.

We're looking down at a train track and a car overpass, and a highway below. Everything is white (snow) and gray (clouds and wet asphalt), except for the surprisingly colorful spots where the headlights light up the asphalt in yellow and orange.

Kelso Depot

Why is there a train depot in the middle of the Mojave Desert? The grade beyond was too long and steep for steam locomotives to pull a train up without the assistance of "helper engines." These engines needed a station, roundhouse, switches, and water (which was abundant here.)
