Gavin<p>Gradually setting up home for my emails on <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/Posteo_de" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Posteo_de</span></a>. So far I'm really impressed. <a href="https://posteo.de/en" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">posteo.de/en</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>They even offer a handy profile for MacOS that installs your mail, calendar and contacts.</p><p>€1 a month for what should be more than enough. </p><p>My aim is to be able to just swap to a new OS when the time is right without being tied to any one platform. My NAS will replace any cloud storage and Plex supports nearly everything anyway, including Linux.</p>

I sadly left proton after over 5 years of paid service. I use <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Posteo_de" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Posteo_de</span></a> . They're Germany based and a bit "off-grid". No email app, you pay in credits, no trackers, they don't need any personal info. You control what they know.<br>I've been using <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/LibreWolf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LibreWolf</span></a> for years and also <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/torbrowser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>torbrowser</span></a>. My phone, <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Fairphone4" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fairphone4</span></a> , is on <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/calyxos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>calyxos</span></a> and I use their scrubbed <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/chromium" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>chromium</span></a> style browser. I have no subscriptions; I backup my stuff via usb to my comp</p>
Liam<p>So, for everyone looking into email providers, I just want to shout out posteo.de for something that *every* webservice "should" be able to do, but frequently don't!<br>Pre-transition I was one of those folx who used a username that was legal name derived for *everything*, and my email account with them was no exception. They let you make up to 3 aliases with every account, so it was easy to give friends and family an alternate address when I came out, but I was not ready for the headache of asking them to let me change my username/primary email as there is no obvious way to do this on their webapp.<br>I finally got around to emailing their support team asking last night. Today they had activated a "change account name" feature on their webapp, which let me put in a new username, and it automatically kept my *old* email address as an alias so I won't miss anything sent to the wrong place. It was easy and painless. Had to update my client to the new username, and I was good to go! <br>I understand why that's not something to necessarily let people accidently discover, so I don't mind that I had to email to ask. But if you have a posteo account and need to change your username, it *absolutely can be done*!! </p><p><a href="https://cathode.church/tags/email" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>email</span></a> <a href="https://cathode.church/tags/posteo_de" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>posteo_de</span></a> <a href="https://cathode.church/tags/nameChange" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nameChange</span></a></p>
