Georgiana BrummellAttention, blind Akkoma users! I will be writing to the developer with my concerns about a few problems with accessibility on this platform. Most should be easy to resolve. Please let me know if you find any more, and also state what browser and screen reader you are using. Note: This is in reference to the site itself, not to your client of choice. I will post about that separately. For the record, I use NVDA with Firefox.<ol><li>Many buttons are unlabelled and simply say "button". This is true on the main page as well as when viewing posts and tabs in profiles. Most work once pressed. They just need to be labelled.</li><li>Searching for people, tags, groups, and posts is inaccessible. I can enter the edit field and write my text, but then, there are two unlabelled buttons next to that. The first simply takes me back to the edit field. The second does nothing. I am assuming this is a submit button that doesn't work via the keyboard.</li><li>It is impossible to view followers, as well as those whom I follow. I can see the numbers of each but not the people and groups themselves.</li><li>I cannot read my own profile without editing it. There appears to be no link where I can simply view it, either as myself or anonymously. If I go to my page and am not logged in, however, I can view it. I can also easily edit it when logged in.</li><li>The page renders very differently in Chrome than in Firefox. I am considering Hometown or Glitchsoc, but wouldn't mind suggestions from other places as well. I don't know much about these networks, so I may be missing some good ones. I am seeking a network and/or instance with the following features.<ol><li>Accessible with screen readers, especially NVDA, in case I need to use the web interface. If it's mostly text, or at least uses semantic html, that would be perfect.</li><li>Compatible with Mastodon. I will most likely be using TweeseCake for as many things as possible as i do with Friendica. But if the website is really clean and it's not compatible, I will still consider it.</li><li>Long posting limit. Friendica.world has a 200,000 (not a typing error) character limit. While wonderful, it's not strictly necessary. But I would expect at least 5,000 at the minimum, 10,000 or more to be comfortable.</li><li>Free speech, but nothing illegal or full of hate. I'm not one for obscenities. but barring adult content, I don't really post warnings either, especially not for silly things. I also want the right to respectfully disagree with people without being kicked off a server. It's one thing to be strict in a group. It's another to be strict on one's own timeline. Friendica.world is good in this regard.</li><li>Not a political server. I am not a leftist, or a rightist, or an anythingist. I am also not a vegan, a gamer, or a technology professional. I just want a general server, or at least, one that aligns with my interests (see my profile). Tech SingerI know we have a few <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/A11Y" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#A11Y</a> and <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/PDF" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#PDF</a> experts here, and would be grateful for some advice. I have three PDF forms which are acting weirdly in Adobe Reader, Foxit, and Firefox with both <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/NVDA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#NVDA</a> and <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/Jaws" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Jaws</a>. These should be accessible, but I'm having issues moving in one, reading labels in all, and marking boxes in one. Is there some sort of way of seeing whether this is me using the products wrongly, the forms being inaccessible, or both? Is there some sort of updated (I'm seeing tons of old stuff) information as to how to determine whether a PDF form is marked up properly? Boosts are very welcome indeed, as are suggestions of other programs to try.
